Oak
The oak helps to create a sense of home anywhere, but most importantly a safe sanctuary within. It brings that sort of strong, steadfast, dependable presence with such ease, allowing one to feel safe and able to dance and let go fully. Great at helping to create foundations, it enjoys to build and co-create with us. The oak also aids with slowing down and like many trees, is wonderful for those with excess Vata (air/ether), yet it connects us with all the elements.
From the Greeks and Norse to the Druids and Slavs, many of the cultures from Europe’s olden days have held the oak tree in high esteem and included it in their mythologies. The word Druid may derive from a Celtic word meaning “knower of the oak tree”. It has much wisdom to share and so also connects us to our inner wisdom. The oak is a master teacher plant.
There are approximately 500 extant species of oaks and it is the national tree of over 17 countries. When connecting to the essences of plants we find that each specie has its own characteristics, qualities and properties. A genus will tend to be similar, but some may vary.
